Chesterfield has lined up another key signing with the news that former Port Vale midfielder Paul Harsley has agreed to the join the Spireites when he becomes a free agent during the close season.
The 29 year old, who was Port Vale's captain and Player of the Year last season, had been offered a new two year deal by the Valiants, but has instead chosen to commit his future with Chesterfield until June 2010.
Paul Harsley said: "Although I was happy at Port Vale I liked the sound of what was happening here and decided that Chesterfield was the better option for me."
Chesterfield manager Lee Richardson said: "I am delighted that Paul has decided to join us as he brings a wealth of valuable experience to the squad."
The former Grimsby Town trainee, who has also had spells with Scunthorpe United, Halifax Town, Northampton Town, and Macclesfield Town, has so far made a total of 475 appearances, and scored 40 goals.
Meanwhile, Port Vale manager Lee Sinnott has praised his captain: "I'd like to thank Paul for his services to the club, we understand his position as he understands ours. Everyone at Port Vale wishes Paul well for the future and we hope that Paul does well for Chesterfield."
This latest signing follows on from the news earlier this month that the experienced former Sheffield United central defender Rob Page is to join Chesterfield on a two year deal, and last week midfielder Derek Niven extended his contract for a further twelve months.
