Community dream to become reality
A long held aspiration for local community facilities to be integrated into the Spireites new football stadium at Whittington Moor could become a reality for members of the Chesterfield Football Supporters Society (CFSS), the supporter's trust that helped save the club from going out of business only 8 years ago.
Members are getting the chance in a ballot to authorise the CFSS Board to sell the bulk of the Trust's remaining shareholding in CFC 2001 Ltd, with the proceeds of the sale being invested directly in the Chesterfield FC Community Project Development.
If agreed, up to 225,210 CFC 2001 ordinary £1 shares will be sold, although the Society will be retaining its original shareholding of 6,240 shares bought with the money raised at its historic launch meeting at the Winding Wheel in 2001.
Shares held by individual members following a distribution a couple of years ago are not involved in this sale.
CFSS chairman John Croot said: "The CFSS Board is unanimously recommending its members to vote Yes. Having community facilities at the new stadium has always been a key objective and raising additional funds in this way will ensure it becomes a reality."
Despite new ownership of the football club since Dave Allen took over recently as the new majority shareholder, the Society will maintain its close links with the club by retaining supporter representation on the football club Board.
Voting forms have been posted out to CFSS members who have until 15 June to cast their votes.
The CFSS is to hold an open meeting later in the year to give its members the chance to discuss the Society's community aspirations and future role in supporting the football club.
