CFSS vote for shares sale
Members of the Chesterfield Football Supporters Society (CFSS) have voted overwhelmingly to authorise the CFSS Board to sell the bulk of the Trust's remaining shareholding in CFC 2001 Ltd (which trades under the name Chestefield FC) with 94% voting in favour.
The proceeds, which could amount up to £225,210, will be invested in the Chesterfield FC Community Project Development, which aims to develop community facilities at the new stadium and support other local community activities as well.
It means that a long held aspiration for local community facilities to be integrated into the Spireites new football stadium at Whittington Moor will now become a reality for members of the CFSS supporter's trust that helped save the club from going out of business only 8 years ago.
The CFSS will be retaining its original shareholding of 6,240 shares bought with the money raised at its historic launch meeting at the Winding Wheel in 2001. Shares held by individual members following a distribution a couple of years ago are not involved in this sale.
CFSS chairman John Croot said: "Once again CFSS members have come up trumps with another pragmatic decision that recognises that supporting the club with community facilities is the right way forward for the Society in the future.
The CFSS is to hold an open meeting later in the year to give members the chance to discuss the Society's community aspirations and future role in supporting the football club. Despite new ownership of the football club since Dave Allen took over recently as the new majority shareholder, the Society will maintain its close links with the club by retaining supporter representation on the football club Board.
To the proposal: 'That up to 225,210 CFC 2001 ordinary £1 shares held by the Chesterfield Football Supporters Society be sold at the complete discretion of the CFSS Board, proceeds from the sale of the shares to be invested in the Chesterfield FC Community Project Development.' of those who voted 94% voted yes and 6% voted no.
