Aaron's Blog Week 4

Posted on: Mon 06 Sep 2010

I can't start anywhere else but with the 4-0 win over Hereford. Whits took all the plaudits with his hat trick and rightly so but I thought it was a great team performance. We defended really well when needed, Tommy pilled of some great saves, the penalty save changed the game and when we were going forward it was an absolute pleasure to watch. It certainly made my job on the radio a lot easier. It also kept our 100% league record intact with us picking up a draw at Macclesfield as well it makes a good start to the season, but don't worry the gaffer knows how to keep us players feet on the ground.

On Tuesday night we travelled to Walsall for the first round of the Johnstones paint trophy. A lot of people don't take the competition seriously and I don't know why. It's no FA Cup but it's still a great opportunity for lower league clubs to play at Wembley and also earn some much needed cash. And I'm glad to say that the boys have kept our hopes alive with a good 2-1 victory. A goal each from Jordan and Morg's have put our name in the hat for the next round and gives us something to look forward to and a trip to face Sheffield Wednesday.

Now something not football related but definitely Chesterfield FC related. Just over a year ago we lost a dear friend Sue Green. The staff and players are thinking of her and our thoughts are with her family.

Back with football now and with Danny Whitaker scoring a hat trick in our last home game I caught up with him to ask a few Questions.

So Danny what did you get up to in the summer?

"I went on holiday to Turkey with the misses just for a nice relaxing break"

Why have you signed for Chesterfield FC?

"A few reasons really. The manager was the main reason but also the great stadium and Chesterfield will be pushing for promotion where as Oldham will be fighting relegation and all players want to be winning games"

How have you found the club in the short time you have been here?

"Fantastic, the boys have been great and the staff have been really friendly. It's also brilliant playing in such a good stadium and the fans have been great in helping me settle in"

You seemed to have settled well, scoring a hat trick in just your second home game. How was that for you?

Magnificent, they don't come around very often, it's only my second (He scored one while at Macclesfield) so you cherish them when they do"

Do you have any personal and team goals for the season?

"Personally I would like to reach double figure in goals and as a team I would love us to get promotion. We have a good squad with competition for places so I think we have a good chance"

And finally do you have any superstitions?

"Not really, just the magpie one. Where one magpie is bad luck and two magpies is good luck. That's about it really.

Aussie saying

"He's about as mad as a gum tree full of galahs"

Referring to someone who is insane.

Enjoy the game
