Spireites 1 Iron 4

Chesterfield made one change to the side beaten at Bramall Lane in midweek, bringing Liam Ridehalgh back for Nathan Smith. The team lined up like this:

Lee

Hurst, Trotman, Thompson, Ridehalgh

Talbot, Allott, Moussa, Mendy

Bowery, Westcarr

Subs: Smith, Whitaker, Ajose, Randall, Ford.

In a bright Spireite start, Reid received a lecture on 32 seconds for bringing Bowery down. Ridehalgh's cross from the free kickthe back of the box was cleared. Moussa tried his luck from distance after Slocombe's clearance scuttled along the ground on 4, but the ball flew wide. At the other end, Walker's shot from a free kick was easily held by Lee.

Scunthorpe won the game's first corner on 7 but Lee, again, found it easy to claim. Bowery chased down Mendy's ball forward and forced Mirfin to concede The Spireites' first corner; Trotman rose at the back post to attack Moussa's kick, but the ball cleared him by a foot or so.

Reid went into the book for a foul on Bowery on 13 that left the Spireites with a free kick a few yards away from the corner of the Scunthorpe penalty box. Thompson got to Ridehalgh's kick but headed over the bar.

Byrne sliced a clearance so badly that Slocombe, who had to clear, sliced his effort too, and the ball ran tantalisingly close to Bowery on 16 before being hacked away. Thompson got his head to another Spireite corner a minute later and the ball was blocked by a knot of opposing players in their six-yard box.

Mendy's neat backheel set Ridehalgh free to cross, but neither Talbot nor Westcarr could get a positive connection and Slocombe was able to claim the ball. CRAIG WESTCARR had better luck on 21 when he charged down an attempted clearance some thirty yards out and advanced under pressure into the box to fire past Slocombe and put The Spireites one up.

Robertson equalised for Scunthorpe on 27 when he fired home from close range after McAleny appeared to handle the ball in working his way through the box to set the goal up.

Walker was booked for trying to pull Mendy back as he broke through; play had gone on, but Mozika ended it by hacking Mendy down. The Spireites were left with a free kick that Slocombe held well in front of his face.

Byrne went into the book on 39 for a foul on Allott as Scunthorpe racked up the foul count. Mozika was hurt in a scramble that began with a fine ball out to Talbot that allowed the midfielder to cut in and drive the ball across the goal.

Bowery chased down a neat through ball in stoppage time and won a corner off Byrne. Moussa's delivery curled out and just beyond the far post.

Halftime: Spireites 1 Iron 1. Attendance: 6152 (957 from Scunthorpe)

Scunthorpe won a corner off Hurst on 48, which Walker swept in; Lee was judged to have got a fingertip to it as it flew out on the other side. Walker again delivered, and successive hacks at the ball by Scunthorpe men only took it further away until Ryan blazed over from outside the box.

Despite being clearly held, Bowery fed the ball into Ridehalgh but the ball wouldn't run for him as he burst into the box. Walker's free kick was headed a foot over the goal by Mirfin on 56. Bowery ran on to Talbot's flick and won a corner off Reid.

Scunthorpe took the lead on 64 when Walker capitalised on a lucky deflection off Trotman to fire home from six yards out. A driven Talbot cross on 67 took a deflection and went to safety, while a Westcarr cross a minute later was too close to Slocombe.

Chesterfield made a double-change on 72 when Ajose and Randall replaced Mendy and Allott. Robertson lifted his arm into Trotman's face on 74 and got away with it, after a fashion; although the ref didn't punish him Trotman did, and conceded a free kick for it. From the kick the ball came to Robertson, who curled the ball away from Lee's despairing dive and into the net to establish a 3-1 lead with fifteen minutes left.

McAleny got in front of Thompson to fire a shot across the goal on 77, and Togwell came on for Walker before the goal kick was taken. An Ajose shot drilled a yard wide of Slocombe's goal on 80.

Barcham made it 4-1 after wriggling through into the box and firing across Lee and in to the opposite corner on 81. Smith replaced the injured Trotman before the resumption. O'Connor replaced Mozika with seven minutes remaining. A Scunthorpe corner on 84 drifted over everyone and out. Randall went into the book for a late foul on O'Connor.
