Chesterfield recalled Jordan Bowery to the starting line-up for the visit to Wycombe, moving Jack Lester to an experienced-looking bench that could claim just shy of 1,500 League starts among its seven players (although more than a thousand of those were shared between Ian Breckin and Rob Page.) Ian Morris came into the side at the expense of Craig Clay, which allowed Danny Whitaker to take up a central midfield berth, next to Derek Niven.

Chesterfield won an early corner after Talbot's cross was put out by Sandell. Whitaker's deep cross was cleared. The visitors had the first opportunity after Bowery's pace caused problems, but the young man shot over. At the other end, Sandell's cross was put out for Wycombe's first corner by Hunt, on 5. Bloomfield's corner was headed over by Sandell. Hunt cleared Beavon's fumbled shot on 7.Lee palmed a Betsy shot away on 9.

Beavon had the ball in the back of the net on25 after chasing down a rebound from a Bloomfield shot, but the offside flag denied him.

CRAIG DAVIES gave Chesterfield the lead with his seventh goal of the season a little against the run of play on 27. A slip by Sandell presented the Chesterfield man to get up unopposed to head a Talbot cross into the net from around twelve yards.

The game suddenly took an end-to-end look to it. Wycombe won a corner on 31 which Bloomfield took; there was a push on Mattis by Bennett, however, and play came to a halt. Chesterfield progressed to the other end and won a corner of their own, which Whitaker took on 32. Betsy broke with the ball from the clearance but Griffiths stood firm and denied him further progress. Back up the other end, Bowery beat Westwood and won a corner. It was headed away by Montrose, who followed up to deny Morris a shooting opportunity.

Despite looking good going forward, Wycombe were showing frailty at the back and Ford met a Whitaker corner with his head on 38 which was deflected away for another corner. Talbot's shot from the initial clearance went well over. Talbot headed Beavon's attempted flick away and Davies broke with Bowery after Montrose's error in midfield; Bowery got to the byeline but couldn't get enough on his cross.

Mattis brought Montrose down on the edge of the box on 47, with Wycombe men pleading that the foul was inside. Sandell took the free kick but saw his poor free kick blocked by Niven, and cleared. Another free kick was given away straight after and a five-man Spireite wall did the job, twice, from Sandell's kick and the rebound. Wycombe kept the early pressure on and won the half-s first corner on 50, which Bloomfield took to the back post. A Sandell foul on Talbot relieved the pressure.

Betsy crossedand Strevens saw an effort blocked; from the rebound Lee was forced into a fine save from Ainsworth. Montrose blasted goalwards on 56 and Lee pulled out another tidy save to concede a corner and keep his side's lead intact. Jordan Bowery broke from his own half on 59 and forced a good save from Bull.

Ainsworth took Beavon's ball and looked for Betsy but the ball was cut out by Niven for a corner. Strevens was in the right place to pick up a knock down and thump the ball past Lee and into the net for the equaliser, on 64.

Jack Lester replaced Ian Morris on 67, with the visitors putting Bowery over towards the left. Ainsworth's crude challenge on Davies gave Chesterfield the opportunity to swing a free kick in and Whitaker did this, but Westwood and Montrose cleared. Jack Lester's quality played a pivotal part in setting up CRAIG DAVIES to restore Chesterfield's lead on 72 with a simple lift over the keeper after being put through.

Betsy went down under a 74th-minute challenge from Ford in the box and the yellow card came out - for Betsy, for diving. Davies took the ball inside past a tiring Ainsworth and drove a shot against the Wycombe bar on 77, with the rebound just eluding Jack Lester.

The Chairboys brought Davies on for Ainsworth with six minutes left. Ford's challenge on Strevens saw the ball squirm towards Lee and it somehow went past him, but Hunt came round to clear away from in front of goal for a corner. Bowery headed Bloomfield's corner away.
