Silkmen 2 Spireites 0

The Spireites play off hopes took a major body blow at the Moss Rose against Macclesfield who made it four wins out of the last six sadly form the Spireites can only dream about at the moment after now taking a paltry nine points out of the last thirty three. John Sheridan once again rang the changes with Kevin Austin replacing Rob Page to partner skipper in Breckin in the heart of the Spireites defence. A fit again Wade Small  came in for Scott Boden to partner Jack Lester up front  and Danny Boshall partnered Mark Allott in  midfield at the expense of Derek Niven. New Macc boss Gary Simpson made just one change restoring former Liverpool youngster Craig Lindfield starting into the Silkman midfield. The Moss Rose pitch once again hadn't seen much water and every bounce of the ball saw resulted in a dust cloud rising from the pitch but obviously nowhere near the amount produced by Iceland this week. In the ninth minute a long ball forward from the Spireites saw Macc keeper Jon Brain rush out to reach it before Jack Lester and moments later  the home side had  a Sean Hessey's header well blocked in the six yard box Ian Breckin had a header from a corner which was blocked by Nat Brown but chances were rare until a long throw from Matthew Lowe. The throw was half cleared out to Lee Bell on the edge and his slightly wayward shot wasn't dealt with by the Spireites defence  with at least two defenders kicking fresh air with Jordan Bowery the last man to miss his kick and the ball fell for Sinclair at the far post to sidefoot home past Tommy Lee. The home side grew in confidence and a quick one-two with Tipton allowed Izak Reid to get to the byline a few minutes later and with time to put the ball in his near post cross was put behind just before Lindfield could strike. The Silkmen doubled their lead soon after though when a cross-field ball from Sean Hessey found Nat Brown who had stayed forward following a long throw. After interchanging passes with Tipton he flashed the ball across the six yard box to find Mukendi lurking beyond the far post to stroke home. As the half drew to close Brain saved well from an unlikely Kevin Austin shot  from close range.Wade Small then had a 25 yard drive flew a yard wide of the post as the Spireites seemed to finally wake finally and look more threatening. Jack Lester set up Small again this time on his left foot but he could only hit a tame shot across goal which Brain save comfortably Half Time 2-0. The Spireites made one change at half time Kevin  Austin switched to left back to accomadate Rob Page replacing Alan Goodall. On 52 minutes Jordan Bowery appeared to have given the Spireites some hope but he was denied what looked to be a perfectly good goal. Jack Lester beat his man on the left to cross for Jordan Bowery and although he didn't connect well his effort bobbled towards goal and looked to be almost a foot over the line before Paul Morgan scrambled it away. Despite huge protests from Spireite fans behind the goal and the players the referee waved play on as there was no flag from the linesman. Small and Demontagnac both saw yellow for there protests over the non goal. Vinny Mukendi headed wide from a Bell corner. The Spireites new their luck was out though when Brain pulled off an tremendous save to deny Lester . Bowery ran into the box and crossed the ball to Lester who  appeared to have the simplest of jobs to pull a goal back but Brain to get across and blocked his close range effort . Danny Boshell sliced wide from 20 yards and ex-Silkman Martin Gritton came off the bench to head the lively Ishmel Demontagnac's cross over as Chesterfield became more and more frustrated in the final third. Five minutes of time added on and although much of that was played in the Macc half the Spireites failed to break through again and Lee denied substitute Kyle Wilson from notching the home side a third after Wilson turned Kevin Austin and blasted to the near post from a tight angle. The disappointing result leaves the Spireites in eighth place on goal difference with Dagenham and Redbridge and with just three games to go the Spireites season looks in serious danger of petering out before the seasonal end of Saltergate celebrations commence.
