Wade Small stepped up and placed it to Phillips right and the keeper made an excellent save to keep his side in it. On 25 though and Grant went through the Spireites defence like a hot knife in butter his pass found Donaldson a former Spireite target under Roy Mcfarland and he fired home to become the first opposition player to score in the Kop end in the league. Donaldson again had a shot this time saved by lee moments later.
On 30 the Alex doubled their lead, a foul by Ian Breckin close to the edge of the area. Ashley Westwood stepped up with a free kick and placed the ball past Tommy Lee and into the right hand side of the goal. Disappointing goal to concede but a cracking finish.
37 minutes played and a Mark Allott effort went wide as the Spireites looked to get back into the match. A Corner one of many in the first half was headed down by Page but straight to Phillips and he saved low down. On 43 a Somma effort was saved by Phillips and pushed away for a corner to which came nothing. On the stroke of half time Djiliali worked his magic down the left hand side and got his byline cross in which found its way out of the area to Allott who played the ball back in to Lester who's volley hit the woodwork and bounced away. There was time for Zola to have his shot saved by Lee as the Spireites were praying for half time.

On 80 Calvin Zola for Crewe was replaced by Byron Moore. On 84 though it was game over surely for the Spireites, Donaldson did well down the right and skipped past Breckin crossing to find Murphy who slotted past Lee to make the scoreline 1-3. The Spireites fought back though with a through ball by Perkins to find JACK LESTER who shot past Phillips and with the aid of the post score his eighth of the season also. The referee opted for five minutes of injury time but the only thing of note was the replacement of Grant with Danny Shelley and Crewe took the three points.
